Movie Review: Karate KidKnown as the Kung Fu Kid in China (I believe is more an accurate name for the movie) is produced by Will and Jade Pinkett Smith. Who else will star in the movie but their golden boy Jaden Smith.
It was meant to be a remake of the classic Karate Kid that we love but all base in China. The story starts of with Dre from Detroit whom has to moved to China due to his mother's work commitment. First day in China and he was smitten by a girl; he was quickly picked upon by the neighborhood bully that knows kungfu.
Dre took solace and advise from Mr Han (Jackie Chan) the apartment maintenance guy.
The story line follows the Karate Kid - i.e. accepting the challenge to participate in tournament. Trains in weird way that does not necessary reflects usual training methods.
Wins the tournament and is seen as a hero.
What throws me off with this movie is seeing Jackie Chan throwing 12 years old around the room. They were quick to point out that Jackie Chan didn't lay a hand on the boys because he "cleverly" used props to make the boys fight against each other BUT it still makes me think its child abuse for a reason. LOL.
Amazing scenery of China and I think the movie was slightly longer than necessary because they tried to incorporate all the amazing scenes of China in one movie. Needed because they are the first Western company allowed to shoot in China.
Overall: 3/5. Jaden was witty and funny but its just the age that doesn't seem right to me. They are sooo young!!
